Merry Christmas!

A very Merry Christmas to postcrossers everywhere!.

Ever wondered about the first Christmas card?  Why do we say "Merry" Christmas?

It was made in London in 1843.  You can read about it and watch a video  HERE  and discover some truly amazing facts:
- what the center and side scenes represented
- how the color images were produced
- why the card was so controversial (the answer lies in the children in the image...can you see it?)
- who commissioned the card and why

What is postcard collecting called?

Did you know that postcard collecting is called deltiology?  And a person who collects them is a deltiologist? Postcard collecting is the third most popular collecting hobby behind stamps and coins. Swiss businessman Adolf Feller's collection of more than 54,000 postcards is considered to be the largest in the world.  You can find out more HERE.

Change of direction and now moving west!

Jackson, South Carolina (USA) is the destination of this postcard with an emblematic view of the Cathedral as seen from the Praza da Inmaculada. We hope Marty likes it!

We continue to travel east!

This postcard's fortunate recipient is in Hangzhou, China. The image shows the historic Igrexa de San Francisco reflected in the glass windows of the modern library Ánxel Casal.

Our second postcard is headed for Taiwan!

Four English students have sent this postcard showing this emblematic street in Santiago's old town.  Our friend in Nantou County, Taiwan, is sure to find it charming.

Our first postcard has been sent to Russia!

Our postcrossing project at EOI Santiago de Compostela has taken flight and our first postcard is on its way to Moscow, Russia!

Sonia and Nerea's postcard shows a black and white image of the Toural from 2007.

Thanks Nerea and Sonia for taking part in this journey!
